Dear Engaged Couple,
Monte Ventoso. Let that name roll off your tongue a few times. There’s a poetry to it, don’t you think? Monte Ventoso. It means Windy Mount in Italian, and I suppose the villa of that name in Madison, Virginia, may BE windy—sometimes. At least, it is definitely has a clear view of the mountains. But when I visited this past weekend, to officiate at a wedding, it was not windy. In fact, the day I visited, the weather was perfect.
Where is it?
The wedding venue, again, Monte Ventoso, is about an hour’s drive north on Route 29 from Charlottesville, and a two hour drive south and west from Washington, DC. It is in Madison County, Virginia.
What is it?
It looks like an Italian Villa—think well-manicured lawns, terra cotta walkways, stucco walls, tile roof, arched doorways. There’s a climbing rose trellis at the far end of the back lawn—just the right place to exchange vows. And inside? The first floor boasts lovely oriental carpets, dramatic art work including statuary, chandeliers in almost every room and at least two fireplaces. The gourmet kitchen is large enough to accommodate a catering staff and seemed to have all the necessary utensils.
This property, is not well-known for some reason, although it should be. It’s an Air B&B not too far from Early Mountain Vineyard, another great property, and of course, not terribly distant from Charlottesville, a happenin’ place for sure.
The couple I married there this weekend, could not say enough good things about Monte Ventoso, so check it out!
