Dear Engaged Couples—

Tomorrow’s February.  This is my slow time of the year.  Happily, though,  I am not just twiddling my thumbs.  During this slow time, I am answering your e-mails, talking with couples interested in using my services, updating my webpage and

meeting with other wedding professionals.  That is what I did yesterday.  I met with a wedding professional in Staunton, Virginia.  Her name is Laina Hamilton.  She is the Innkeeper and Event Manager at the Inn at Old Virginia in Staunton, Virginia.   I realize of course, that by the time you start searching for an officiant and are therefore on my webpage, you have probably already settled on a venue for your wedding, but if not….

May I suggest the Inn at Old Virginia.  It’s a gorgeous piece of property decorated as you expect, as an old Virginia Inn but with antiques from both England and Virginia.  It’s in Staunton, Virginia, which is equally “old,” with many special and interesting tourist sites.  These include a Shakespeare theater, the Woodrow Wilson Museum and library, and the Staunton Frontier Museum.  Staunton is a relatively small city, so everything is easy to get to, and parking is usually not a problem.

Here I will just say that I love Staunton.  When friends come to Charlottesville to visit, after doing the requisite winery and brewery tours, I suggest that we take in Staunton.  Wonderful for walking and antiquing, eating and soaking up some culture.

All to say that the Inn, sitting on eleven acres, would be a wonderful base for your wedding– with bedrooms for you and at least some of your guests, and a good-size dining room for breakfasts, for your rehearsal dinner and/or your small wedding reception.

If your wedding is on the large size, and you want to have a large reception at the Inn, a tent is the answer.  The Inn has all the specifics about rental tents.
