The Jefferson Hotel, Richmond; What a lovely Christmas Wedding Venue! |
Dear Engaged Couple-
If you aren’t already dreaming of a wedding in the spring, summer or early fall, with the Blue Ridge Mountains, or a glistening lake for your ceremony’s backdrop, you might consider saying your vows indoors, during the Christmas season. This time of year has a few things going for it.
One, if you plan your wedding just before the holidays, or even DURING the holidays—say Christmas Eve, or the day before Christmas Eve, your family members can “kill two birds with one stone,” so to speak. That is, if they were planning to get together with you for the holidays anyway, now they don’t have to make another special trip to visit—that can be a substantial cost savings for them.
Two, your guests won’t have to rush back to wherever they are from to put nose to the grindstone—that is, they can use their winter vacation days toward your wedding. And if they aren’t rushing, that means they can really kick back and enjoy your special day.
Jefferson Hotel–note Christas tree and those famous stairs! |
Three, a lot of top-of-the line venues pull out all the stops decorating for the Christmas season—we’re talking whole regimens of poinsettias, a sprawling miniature village maybe, and of course, that prerequisite Christmas tree. That means less decorating for you. Indeed, all you may need in the way of flowers are some bouquets and boutonnieres. Two weekends ago I officiated at a wedding at the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond. I stood at the top of that staircase made famous by the movie “Gone with the Wind” and looked down on garlands, and Christmas trees. You know how people say, “Breathtaking?” It really was. I mean, the scene actually sucked the breath right out of me—glad I had the stair rail for support. Scarlett O-Hara is not the only woman to have swooned on that staircase!
King’s Family Vineyard, Tasting Room |
Last weekend I officiated at a wedding at Kings Family Vineyard in Crozet, Virginia (Just West of Charlottesville). The space was more sparsely decorated than The Jefferson, but it was nevertheless, beautiful in its simplicity.
So, bottom line, if you don’t have your heart set on an out-of-doors wedding, you might consider an indoor, December ceremony. And now I will stop writing. It is true that one picture is worth a thousand words. So, feast your eyes on these pics.
