Dear Engaged Couple-
I have been thinking a lot lately about venues. Specifically, about out-of-the-way venues for your special day. One that is not all that far from Charlottesville is actually in Scottsville, Virginia. That town is located on the horse shoe bend on the James River. In its day, it was a major commercial center. Today, it is an historic spot, recently updated with brick walkways and street lighting.
The oldest church in the town is Scottsville Presbyterian Church (SPC) built in 1832. It reflects the federal architecture so popular in the early 1800s. According to pastor Gordon Lindsay, you can rent the church for $200, which is fairly reasonable, I’d say! The sanctuary can easily hold 150, if you include the generous balcony space. Those who have been married at SPC often arrange for their reception to be held at the nearby Tricounty Riding Club. It has ample space and a kitchen facility and lovely grounds, too.
Scottsville Presbyterian Church’s web page address is www.scottsvillepresbyterian@embarq. The church is located at 148 Byrd Avenue, Scottsville, VA. The Tricounty Riding Club is located at 1619 Riding Club Road; Keene, Virginia. Web page address is www.trc.avenue.org,
